VATICAN CITY, Vatican – Pope Francis I believes there’s a gay lobby in the Roman Catholic Church. The pontiff shared his thoughts about the misterious group wielding power in the Holy See during a conversation he had with the Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious Men and Women (CLAR).
The pope was quoted as saying:
In the curia there are holy people, truly holy people. But there is also an undercurrent of corruption, there is also, it’s true, there’s talk of the gay lobby, and yes it’s true. It’s there and we have to see what we can do about it.
According to a report in The Irish Times, the previous pope, Benedict XVI, resigned because of the powerful gay lobby. Still, Pope Francis admits he isn’t very good at promoting reform. That is something Cardinals Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga from Honduras and Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa of Chile will have to do.
