James Homes will be charged with murder and prosecutors will likely proceed with all felony counts filed against him over the Aurora movie theater mass shooting that killed 12 people and injured 70 others. The former PhD student will be charged with first-degree murder and is due to be arraigned on Friday but his lawyers are trying to postpone arraignment.
The Guardian reports:
Defense attorneys did not explain why they are not ready for arraignment. Their filing also objected to media requests to bring cameras into the courtroom. Other than during his brief initial appearance in July, cameras have been barred from court during Holmes’ case.
Holmes went a shooting rampage inside a cinema complex on the outskirts of Denver on July 20. The former student opened fire on the crowd during the screening of the Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” . Holmes’ lawyers are trying to avoid him the death penalty by claiming he’s insane.
