Chinese newspaper The People’s Daily fell for a spoof published by the satirical website The Onion. The satirical website duped the online version of the Chinese Communist Party’s newspaper into believing that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is the ‘sexiest man alive for 2012.’
As The BBC points out, the online paper ran a 55-page story with photos of the Communist leader and also republished some extracts from The Onion’s article.
With his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-born heart-throb is every woman’s dream come true. Blessed with an air of power that masks an unmistakable cute, cuddly side, Kim made this newspaper’s editorial board swoon with his impeccable fashion sense, chic short hairstyle and, of course, that famous smile.
The article was taken down on Wednesday afternoon. Two months ago Iran’s Fars news agency ran a story taken from the The Onion which claimed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was more popular than Barack Obama among white voters in rural America. A fake West Virginian resident was quoted as saying Ahmadinejad takes “national defence seriously.”
