Florida woman Sonji Coney Williams thought an owl had become roadkill when she hit it with her SUV while driving at 60mph. Williams was driving on the Florida Turnpike when she hit the owl: “He never moved, and so, I said ‘Oh my God, I hit a bird,” she said.
The owl never became roadkill. It actually survived the hit by squeezing itself through the car’s grille. It wasn’t until the following day that Williams was informed by a family that the owl she thought to have killed was alive and staring right through her car’s grille.
“There was a family that pulled in front of my parking space and flagged me down and said don’t move, don’t move, you have something in the grille of your truck,” she told the Click Orlando. Williams contacted a wildlife officer that freed the bird.
