After 71 years on the seabed of the Baltic Sea, the Swedish Military retrieved the wreck of a Soviet submarine. As Yahoo News reports, the submarine was found not far from the Baltic island of Oland. German forces had mined the area during World War II and a statement issued by the Swedish Armed Forces said the submarine was blown apart after it “headed straight into the minefield”. A video posted on the Swedish military’s website showed the wreck “had broken into two large sections”. The wreck was found by civilians this summer. Swedish authorities have informed Russia and will allow its navy to conduct a memorial ceremony.
