NEW YORK – PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) offered $ 1m to the first scientist who will invent in vitro chicken. Biological researchers are now trying to find a way to invent artificial meat.
PETA opened the competition back in 2008 and now the extended the deadline to June this year. This is what Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA, said: ‘A lot of people go vegetarian when they have their first heart attack, or see an exposé of a meat factory. But others, especially younger people, just say: “I want my meat”. We’re running out of water, land and time and our health budgets for meat-related diseases are through the roof. What a dream come true if you can give them meat without cruelty, environmental damage and clean as a whistle.’
