Asteroid the size of a football field to buzz past Earth on February 15

Asteroid 2012 DA 14

According to NASA scientists, an asteroid as big as a football field will hurtle past the Earth on February 15. The asteroid doesn’t pose a real threat but it will the first time an asteroid that big will buzz past our planet. Asteroid 2012 DA14 is 50 meters wide and will come within 28,000 kilometers of the Earth’s surface. NASA scientists will monitor its track to gather information on its size, spin and shape, reports The Sydney Morning Herald. The last time an asteroid as big as this one hit the Earth was 50,000 years ago creating the Meteor Crater in Arizona.
