After a year, Stewie, the world’s longest cat, lost his battle with cancer and died aged 8 at his home in Reno. In August 2010, the cat, which measured 48.5 inches, was declared the world’s longest by the Guinness World Records. Owner Robin Hendrickson said Stewie, whose full name was Mymains Stewart Gilligan, “was always very social and loved meeting new people.” In 2012, Stewie was diagnosed with a lymphoid disease called Lymphosarcoma. He survived but while in remission doctors found an aggressive tumor on the cat’s kidneys that proved fatal.
