Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sobbing in a hand-to-hand embrace with the mother of late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavéz was condemned by Iran’s religious and political groups. Ahamdinejad was pictured holding Elena Frias’ hands and cheeks going against the predicaments of the Muslim religion.
The picture was taken at the funerals of Hugo Chavez which took place last Friday.
Hojat al-Islam Hossein Ibrahimi, a member of the Society of Militant Clergy of Tehran, was quoted as saying: “In relation to what is allowed (halal) and what is forbidden (haram) we know that no unrelated women can be touched unless she is drowning at sea or needs (medical) treatment.”
A member of the Iranian parliament, Seyyed Mohammed Pourfatemi, has called on Iran’s clerics to condemn Ahmadinejad’s latest actions “and not allow him to do as he pleases when it comes to infringing Islamic laws.”
