Germany removed its longest word after the parliament in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania conformed to an EU regulation.

Rindfleischetikettierungsueberwachungsaufgabenuebertragungsgesetz, a 63-letter long word, no longer exists after European officials lifted regulations aimed at tackling the mad cow disease. The “law delegating beef label monitoring” was created in 1999 when the BSE virus caused panic across Europe.

The word was used in official texts but never made it to the German dictionary.
