NEW YORK – Maggie Meier suffered a seizure and went into a coma in 2008. She spent two and-a-half months in a coma due to a swelling in her brain called mycoplasma meningoencephalitis. She was dehospitalized after 100 days but during her coma she was still able to shoot the basket.
From Gawker:
Off and on for the two-and-a-half months she was in the coma, Meier’s family would move her into a chair and give her a beach ball to shoot through a makeshift hoop. She would practice for several minutes before returning to her comatose state. Now nearly fully recovered, Meier says she has absolutely no memory of playing.
