A 23-year-old from North Carolina suspected of killing one person and wounding five was shot dead in a shootout in Texas.
The victim of the early morning shooting spree has been identified as 41-year-old Alicia Torres who was found dead in her car near Eola, reports Reuters.com.
The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, was in his pick-up truck when he went on a shooting spree in Concho County, about 250 miles southwest of Dallas. The young man first opened fire around 4:30 a.m. when he was in an area near Eden. He wounded a woman who was rused to a local hospital.
Shortly after the first shooting, the suspect opened fire and wounded two more people, this time outside a convenience store in Brady. He then drove back to Eden where he shot and wounded another person. All three have been treated and released from hospital.
The only victim of the early morning shooting – Alicia Torres - was found dead in her car around 6 a.m.. About a quarter of an hour after finding the woman’s dead body, Concho County Sheriff Richard Doane exchanged gun shots with the young North Carolina man on a highway.
The sheriff was injured in the exchange but the gunman was killed in a confrontation with a Highway Patrol trooper and game warden. Doane has been hospitalised in San Angelo hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
