NEW YORK – The pink slimy matter that McDonald’s uses in its hamburger meat- aka ammonium hydroxide – is off the market. McDonald’s confirmed the news that they were eliminating the matter in their hamburgers after months-long campaign by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
The ingredient is found in fertilizers, household cleaners and “some roll-your-own explosivesm,” reports Msnbc, but the fast food chain denied that the decision to ban the substance was made on the heels of one of England’s most popular chefs TV campaign.
In a statement, Mc Donald’s clarified that “it stopped using [select lean beef trimmings] — its preferred term for scrap meat soaked in ammonium hydroxide and ground into a pink meatlike paste — at the beginning of last year.”
