SEATTLE, Washington – The state of Washington is to become the seventh American state to allow same-sex couples to marry. The marriage equality bill is expected to be signed into law by the state’s governor after Democratic state senator Mary Margaret Haugen said she “would vote for the bill,” reports Gawker.

The bill had already enough votes in the House and Chris Gregoire – the state’s governor – announced she would sign it into law. Prior to voting the bill,  the Democratic Senator Mary Margaret Haugen said she would reconcile her religious beliefs “as an American, as a legislator, and as a wife and mother who cannot deny to others the joys and benefits I enjoy.”
