HONG KONG – Italian fashion label Dolce & Gabbana has apologized for an alledgedly discriminatory photo ban at one of its Hong Kong shops that angered local residents.

The company said in a statement Wednesday that “we are truly sorry and we apologize” for recent events. The store is on a busy shopping street in Kowloon district.

News reports earlier this month said sales staff prevented Hong Kong people, but not mainland Chinese or foreigners, from taking photos of the shop windows from the sidewalk.

The protests highlight simmering resentment “among local residents over the growing influence that wealthy mainland Chinese have over the city,” reports Ap.
