NEW YORK – A Libra ad promoting its new tampon has taken controversy over women’s sanitory products to new highs. In its new ad posted on Facebook not long before Christmas, a drag queen and a blonde woman get competitive about putting mascara, lipgloss and adjusting their bras as they stand in front of a mirror of a public toilet.
Both women share glances at each other in the process until the blonde girl pulls a tampon out of her bag leaving the drag queen with no option but leave.
The ad, which is being shown across all of the Anglo-Saxon world, has received a slew of criticisms by the global transgender community who has labelled the ad as “blatantly transphobic” and “extremely offensive” because it is teaching people you can only be a woman “if you get your period,” said the presidnet of the transgender community of New Zealand Cherise Witeheira.
